The following is moodle assignment instructions, my initial response and my reflection
Select a panel from We3that you think is essential for understanding the comic book as a whole. Give a detailed description of the panel and describe why it is so important for your interpretation of Morrison and Quitely’s work.
Focus on developing your descriptive prose by asking yourself whether or not someone without access to the comic book would have a complete and clear understanding of what is going on in the panel you have selected.

The panel I chose was the one on the mountain side with the truck driving man lying dead in the road while 1 repeats “bad dog” and 2 asks “?home?” In their speech balloons. This panel reminds the reader that these are animals with morals who have been thrust into an unfair situation. They know right from wrong, 1 knows he is a “bad dog” because he killed an innocent man who was scared for himself and his son. 2 simply wants to go home or find a new one. This panel shows how they are not doing well in this harsh new world for them which doesn’t understand who or what they are and what they are capable of feeling. This panel brings out the humanity in the animals while simultaneously showing the consequences of not understanding it, the dead man lying in the road. This panel is a representation of the entire plot, humans not understanding the reality of the situation leading to chaos and hurt feelings.
This panel is essential for understanding the comic book as a whole because it is a representation of how the cliché of the mad scientists creation escaping, causing destruction. It is not the fault of the animals, but regardless they are treated as a threat without listening to the caretaker who knows them best. Showing the animals in their lost and homesick state is the most important part of the story. There are heroic scenes where the animals are seen saving and supporting themselves and others, but this panel reminds the readers that they are just animals who need protection and care themselves. Their humanity shines through in this panel, as they do not want to kill anyone or cause destruction, they simply want to find home.
